it-sa 2018 review: ViPNet high-security solutions for various use cases
The growing number of participants and visitors of it-sa 2018 justified this year’s expo motto "Home of IT-Security" (2018: 696 participants and 14,290 expert visitors from 27 countries, 2017: 630 participants and 12,780 expert visitors from 24 countries). Infotecs just could not miss this key IT security event in Nuremberg and presented its military-grade encryption solutions at stand 9-210 in hall 9. By presenting various use cases in such fields as drones, Industry 4.0 and critical infrastructures, telehealth, mobile communications, and public administration, IT security experts proved the ViPNet technology to be useful in a wide range of scenarios.
"One of the most actively discussed topics at it-sa was using messengers for business purposes, with no guaranteed compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation valid since May 2018", said Josef Waclaw, CEO of Infotecs GmbH. "Messenger services offered on the market process personal data, such as contacts or locations, and transfer it as the metadata. The ViPNet Connect app by Infotecs has the same functionality as other messengers, for example, VoIP end-to-end encryption for mobile calls over mobile networks, as well as encrypted chats and file transfer. What's more, ViPNet Connect has a separate and encrypted phone contact list that stores only the contacts with which the confidential data exchange is allowed. Our messenger guarantees the EU GDPR compliance as the data doesn't leave the company. Thus, employees can use their personal iOS or Android smartphones for business purposes."
Josef Waclaw also explains: "We could also inspire other visitors with our solution for the protected transfer of the video data recorded by drones. Our software-defined security solution is notable for its ability to encrypt and securely transfer video data in the real-time end-to-end over mobile networks."
The ViPNet technology differs from classical VPN solutions in using the symmetrical key management. Thus, it enables the direct end-to-end encryption. Moreover, symmetrical encryption methods, as compared with the frequently used asymmetrical ones, are more resistant to future quantum computer decryption methods. This makes ViPNet extremely attractive for clients and partner companies in the future.
